Your thoughts on the matter
December 11, 2007
Woo and yay, I managed to recover a domain name I bought back in 2006, so you can get here by MentalPhysics.co.uk now
Thanks to that, it’s really made me think of getting this hosted properly, if and when the content makes it worthwhile. I’m hoping to start getting some strips up after christmas, but this all depends on whether or not I manage to get my hands on a graphics tablet, as scanning my little book wont provide very good results, and a lot of them need a re-draw/think anyway. I finished a couple ore last night, and jotted down some more ideas, counted everything up. I have 23 so far (though I might squish a couple together into one bigger one), but I want about double that before I start posting. I have a few concerns though, which I’m hoping some of you may address in the form of comments…
1 – Its just not funny: I guess if this turns out to be the case, It’l all be over rather quickly. When I start posting, totally honest comments will be critical. I do NOT want to be making a fool of myself, but the only way to figure this out is to give it a shot.
2 – people won’t ‘get’ them: this is pretty much the same as above…a lot of them involve my obscure sense of humour, or little things you might not understand unless you know me well in person. Again, just got to give it a shot.
3 – how to start?: Some of them are about me or my life at university, others go the way of recent events or odd technical jokes. Some are more upbeat than others. What feeling should I start with? Or should I go to hell with that and post them in drawing order?
4 – just another xkcd clone: This is one of my biggest worries. People get awfully territorial when it comes to webcomics they read, and I’ve taken rather a lot of inspiration from xkcd. Another guy has done a set of comics with similar reasoning to me, inspired by xkcd, and the lack of need of amazing artwork skills to make a popular and humorous strip. I am NOT COPYING. This is just something I’ve wanted to try, and now I’ve seen a way I can. Don’t hate this (or ignore it) just because of what I’m inspired by.
There were more, but I’ve forgotten and now need to leave for lectures anyway.
Comments on what I’ve said above, your thoughts and reasonings on the matters will be GREATLY APPRECIATED, so please leave me a note, positive or negative. I’ve got plenty of time as yet to work on feedback I’m given, before I start
What am I doing?

sitting here wasting time on a new blog when I should be working, thats what. Seems the pressure is getting to all of us now. There’s a lot of work, very little time, and we all want to put it to the back of our minds. I, personally feel sick currently. Confronting that work is scary shit. I can do it, probably easily, but its the fact there’s 10 or so pages staring back at me, makes my stomach (and mind) churn like mad.
Well, I’ve gotta do it eventually I’d have lost already if it wasn’t for the fact they screwed up, resulting in an extra week for us. 4 days till deadline.
On the other hand, theres some goodness on the way. This is the LAST WEEK! Which means I go home. It’s odd how I hadn’t been looking forward till now (till the panic), not able to wait to see Smudge, Amber, Jazzmine, Smudger, …oh, my family too. Most importantly though, my friends. As much as I wub the fact I have a good chunk of them here, we all need to be together every now and then. Watch out Thurrock, ‘The Group’ is coming home.
Lastly, WEBCOMICS! I have been drawing. They lack any form of detail, the drawing is poor, but I might get better with time. For now, stickmen. Hell, if there’s one thing XKCD / Cyanide and Happiness taught us, its that you dont need good art to be funny…and obscure. I have about 15 so far, but as expected, some aren’t suitable, and some just outright suck. Once I get a good backlog of (what I consider to be) decent webcomics, I’ll start poasting.
And so ends a nice lengthy ferst poast
Hallo wurld!
